Clinical experience can help a pre-health student determine their level of interest in a particular field, as well as provide valuable experience working alongside practicing professionals. Included is a list of some options for obtaining clinical experience.

UPMC - All Hospitals

The Epilepsy Association of Western Central PA (EAWCP) is a private, non-profit service organization providing public education and supportive services to individuals and families affected by epilepsy/seizure disorders.

Athena Home Health And Hospice

The Athena Institute offers an opportunity to provide companionship and become a valued member of their healthcare team. The Jewish Association on Aging is one of the premier healthcare networks in the greater Pittsburgh area, providing comprehensive services designed to keep seniors active, safe, independent and connected to the community. 

Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP)

SHPEP is a national program funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation with direction and technical assistance provided by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and the American Dental Education Association (ADEA). Includes: academic enrichment in the basic sciences and quantitative topics; learning and study skills development, including methods of individual and group learning; clinical exposure through virtual health care settings, simulation experiences, and seminars; a health policy seminar series to expose scholars to current health policy issues, the policymaking process and analysis, health care financing, and the social determinants of health; and an introduction to interprofessional education that addresses effective collaboration across health professions.

PittPharmacy: Pharmacy, Innovations, Experience, Research (PIER)

PittPharmacy PIER (Pharmacy, Innovations, Experience, and Research) is a program offered by the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy to high school and undergraduate students to help navigate and learn about the various paths of pharmacy through an innovative curriculum, lifelong mentorship, and unique experiential sites.

Children's Hospital Of Pittsburgh

The Program for the Study of Neurodevelopment in Rare Disorders (NDRD) at Children’s Hospital is looking for summer interns to aid in scanning, filing, and data entry. This is a specialty clinic for children with rare genetic neurodegenerative disorders of the brain. Our program leads the way in Lysosomal Storage Disease research with projects in development, medicine, gene therapy treatments, and neuroimaging. We have an ongoing training program for students and clinicians who are interested in child development, neurodegenerative disorders and neuroimaging. The position would include participation in clinical research and could be extended to part-time during the school year.
